Terms of Use
These terms are the rules for using the Unbadge Android app and the unbadge.app website. They are short on purpose. By installing or using Unbadge, or by using this site, you agree to them.
The one thing to know. Unbadge clears badges by dismissing the notifications behind them. Dismissed notifications cannot be brought back. Read anything you need before you tap Clear.
01Who you are dealing with
Unbadge is provided by Stepzu, a sole proprietorship registered in Seoul, Republic of Korea (“we”, “us”; postal address available on request). The app is published on Google Play under the developer name elpalaiso. Contact: hello@stepzu.com.
You download the app through Google Play, so Google’s own terms also apply to that distribution. Where these terms are silent, the Google Play Terms of Service apply; where they conflict, these terms govern your relationship with us.
02Who can use Unbadge
You must be at least 14 years old, or the minimum age required to consent to an app’s terms where you live, whichever is higher. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must agree to these terms for you.
03Your license
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use Unbadge on Android devices you own or control, for your own personal use. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, rent, reverse-engineer, or extract the source of the app except where the law expressly allows; remove any notices; or use the app in a way that breaks the law, interferes with our services or Google’s, or circumvents the ads that fund the app.
04How clearing works — please read this
Unbadge removes app badges by dismissing the notifications behind them, using Android’s Notification access. When you tap Clear in the app or on the widget, Unbadge dismisses all currently clearable notifications on your device, including ones that may not be counted in the badge total. Ongoing notifications (such as music playback, navigation, or an active call) are left alone.
Dismissed notifications cannot be restored by Unbadge. Depending on the sending app, the information may still be available inside that app (for example, unread messages in a chat app), or it may not (for example, a one-time alert). By using Clear, you accept that you may lose notifications you have not read, and you agree that it is your responsibility to review notifications you care about before clearing. We recommend that you do not add the widget to a place where it may be tapped accidentally.
05What you are responsible for
- Unbadge only works while you keep Notification access enabled for it in Android Settings. You can turn this off at any time; the app will then stop counting and clearing.
- Some phones (for example certain Samsung, Xiaomi, OPPO, vivo, Huawei, and OnePlus models) stop background apps aggressively. Unbadge may be disconnected from notifications or its widget count may be stale until you open the app again. Keeping it running may require changing your device’s battery settings, which is up to you.
- Whether a badge is shown at all depends on your launcher and the sending app. Unbadge cannot clear badges that are not backed by a notification, and cannot control how your launcher draws them.
- You are responsible for keeping your device secure and for anything done with the app on your device.
06Ads
Unbadge is free and supported by advertising served through Google AdMob: a banner in the app and, occasionally, a full-screen ad — including after a clear started from the widget, shown the next time you open the app. Ads are provided by third parties; we do not endorse them and are not responsible for their content or for what happens if you interact with them. We may change the placement or frequency of ads. Your choices about ad personalization are described in the Privacy Policy.
07Google services the app depends on
Unbadge uses Google Play services, Google AdMob, Firebase, and Google Play In-App Review. These are provided by Google under Google’s terms and may be unavailable, changed, or withdrawn by Google; we are not responsible for that. Some features, including ads and the app’s typefaces, need a network connection the first time they are used.
08Privacy
How the app and this website handle data is described in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms. In case of conflict about data handling, the Privacy Policy governs.
09Third-party apps and trademarks
Unbadge works with notifications from other apps but is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by their makers. Names such as Android, Google Play, Samsung, One UI, Xiaomi, MIUI, HyperOS, KakaoTalk, WhatsApp, Messenger, LINE, Telegram, and Gmail are trademarks of their respective owners and are used only to identify those products. Guides on this site describe those products as we understand them at the time of writing; their settings and behavior may change without notice.
10Our content, your feedback
The app, its design, and the content of this website are owned by us or our licensors and protected by copyright and other laws. You may share links to our pages and quote short excerpts with attribution. If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them without any obligation to you.
11No warranty
Unbadge is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or compatible with your device, that badges will be cleared or counted accurately, or that you will not miss a notification. Nothing in this section limits rights you have as a consumer under mandatory law.
12Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, missed messages or alerts, lost profits, or lost opportunities arising from your use of, or inability to use, Unbadge or this website. Because the app is free, our total liability to you for all claims relating to it is limited to USD 10 or the equivalent in your local currency. These limits do not apply to liability for death or personal injury, for fraud, for intent or gross negligence, or to any other liability that cannot be limited by the law that applies to you, including consumer-protection law in the Republic of Korea, the EEA, and the UK.
13Ending things
You can stop using Unbadge at any time by uninstalling it, which deletes all data the app stored on your device. We may suspend or end your license if you break these terms, and we may discontinue the app or this website at any time. Sections 04 and 09 to 15 survive termination.
14Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the app changes. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date above; for material changes we will also post a notice on this page at least 7 days before they take effect (30 days if the change is unfavorable to you, as required by Korean law). If you keep using Unbadge after a change takes effect, the new terms apply. If you do not agree, uninstall the app.
15Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be brought before the competent court in Seoul, Republic of Korea. If you are a consumer in a country whose law gives you the right to sue or be sued in your home courts or to rely on your local mandatory consumer protections, nothing here takes those rights away. Before going to court, please write to us — most problems can be sorted out by email. These terms are written in English; any translation is for convenience only.
